Abstract:This thesis argues that much of what has become the standard interpretation of the early Shona reaction to colonialism is colored with questionable colonial historiography. It is also the contention of this analysis that many of those recent account of Shona reaction to colonialism that have attempted to challenge colonial historiography on the subject leave a great deal to be desired. This critique begins with an outline of the colonial historiography of the Nashona and their reaction to colonialism. Then it examines some examples of the revisionist anti-colonial accounts on the subject that will supersede both colonial and what has been up to now revisionist historiography on the subject. Notes.
