Abstract: | Several scholars were unanimous in emphasizing the risk of bilharzia appearing in developed agricultural areas. They have gone on to suggest preventive measures which while effective are nevertheless costly, with the result that the authorities concerned hesitate to introduce prophylactic measures despite the fact that these would indubitably be economic in the long term. This paper deals with the situation in Mauritania: Geographical conditions and hydro-agricultural situation - The situation of endemic bilharzia in Mauritania - Proposals - Means and methods of implementation - Conclusion.
