Abstract:Experience in Nigeria, particularly among the Yoruba of Western Nigeria, suggests that local boundaries and disputes over them are considered by the people involved to be of greatest importance. The Government of Western Nigeria appointed a Boundary Commissioner in 1968 and charged him with the task of peaceful settlement of boundary disputes. One such a dispute, between Ede and Ife over the Edunabon enclave, is examined with reference to its origin, the history of attempts to settle it and the nature of the claims of both parties to the disputed area. In conclusion there is a discussion of a possible solution of the problem as veil as of the role and alteration of internal boundaries in the Western State. Ref., figures.
