Abstract: | Uganda's representation at the first Islamic Summit Conference in Lahore in 1974 (Muslims in Uganda constituted 10% of the population at most) was part of a continuing historical process. This article examines the link between religion and politics in this process; a link which was established from the earlier phases of interaction between Uganda and the Sudan. Sections: the Nubi factor in Uganda history - echoes from the 1890s - from politicized religion to a political creed - towards the future. Notes. |
