| Abstract: | In section I of this article the author takes a quick look at some of the principal ways in which economic theory takes cognizance of population changes, paying particular attention to those most relevant to developing economics. In section II he reviews the facts, such as are available about the current population picture in a number of Africa countries. In section III, he builds on the theoretical foundation of the first section and the empirical basis of the second to set out the most important policy issues facing African countries in this area.
