Abstract: | On July 25th, 1972, the General Synod of the Church of Jesus Christ in Madagascar (in Malagasy: Fiangonan'i Jesoa Kristy eto Madagasikara, abbreviated FJKM) carried the proposition of a common fund for the stipends of all its workers, national and expatriate, in the whole country. The plan was due to enter into operation on January 1st, 1977, after intensive preparations. However, its application was postponed at the last moment. The present paper describes the nature of this financial organisation, its theological, pastoral and political implications, on the basis of original documents published in Malagasy in the past few months. A special place is given to an anonymous pamphlet edited by the Central Office of the FJKM in 1976, in which the starting point and the purpose of the scheme are clearly stated. Notes, ref. |
