Abstract: | In the course of research in the small island of Antigua in 1968 the author recorded data about the Seventh Day Adventists. In this article the author explains their beliefs in terms of their practical problems. He argues that similar beliefs in black Africa are associated with similar practical problems. At the end the author discusses the bearing of his data on Weber's thesis and argues that the practical problems of Antiguan Adventists are a consequence of the rise of capitalism. - Notes. |
