Abstract:Caricatures of mission education abound, ranging from those drawn by hagiographic providers to those of antagonistic recipients. It is the author's conviction that the truth may lie somewhere between such extremes and that a thorough examination of one specific mission's work could provide evidence for being suspicious of sweeping generalisations. The case-study selected was the Scottish Presbyterian mission to Nigeria. The mission's central process was educational, and it was this heritage that it left to the independent Nigerian church and nation. - Notes.
