Abstract: | The purpose of this study on spirituality and prayer in African traditional religions and Christianity is to start removing the accumulated barriers between African traditional religions and Christianity and to create a fruitful dialogue and positive orientations. The author critically examines the factors impacting on an understanding of the rich values of African/Igbo traditional spirituality and prayer, notably among Igbo Christians (Nigeria). He seeks for solutions along the lines of true metanoia (repentance and conversion). He finally maps out some guidelines for true conversion that ushers Igbo Catholics into a better understanding of the resilient values in traditional religion, spirituality and prayer. Notes, ref. |
