Abstract:This special issue on women and local government in South Africa contains articles on local government and gender equity, by Mirjam Van Donk; the representation of rural women in local government, by Shirin Motala; the importance of the right to equality in local government, by Glenda Fick; and the role of local government in the mobilization of women around service delivery needs, by Subethri Naidoo.
