| Abstract: | A historical examination of the 'Qasidah' (Ode) on Auchi Centre composed by Shaikh Salih Yahya, an eminent Islamic scholar who was born in Auchi, a major town in Nigeria's Mid-Western Region, in the first decade of the 20th century, brings to light the politics of acrimony and bitterness that characterized the Mid-Western Region of Nigeria between August 1963 and January 1966. The ode depicts the political victimization suffered by the population of Auchi because of their support for the Mid-West Democratic Front, a party allied with the Action Group. The poem also contributes to making Arabic sources available for the reconstruction of the history of Auchi. Notes, ref., sum. |
