Abstract: | This article examines whether the fact that a person is employed in the public service or as a public servant in Nigeria, without more, accords him a legal or special status under the Nigerian legal system, and hence security of employment. It concludes that the mere fact that a person is employed in the public service or by a statutory body does not, by that fact alone, invest him with the status of a protected servant, and consequently a secured tenure. The crucial consideration at any point in time is the terms or conditions of the employment contract that govern the relationship between employer and employee. Notes, ref. |
