Abstract: | The Kenyan legal system is based on the English Common Law which was first introduced by the British colonial administration in the 19th century. This paper reviews the working of the common law in this African jurisdiction and considers its future in the Kenyan legal system. The study reviews the reception process of English law, postindependence developments, current trends in English law and the prospects of survival of the common law in Kenya in the long run.
