Abstract:In precolonial Nigeria, Ilorin, a Yoruba town, was one of those societies that recorded profound industrial progress. By 1800 the Ilorin textile industry was well established. The author describes the origin of the Ilorin textile industry, its organization, the raw materials (principally cotton), the techniques of production and the market for the finished cloth. Ref.
