| Abstract: | This article examines the issue of globalization in the context of Africa's place in the restructuring of the world. It contends that globalization, like other development-related phenomena, has worsened the inequality between the North and the South. Africa as a continent has been marginal to the globalization process even though it is a willing recipient of the influences of globalization. In this sense, globalization as it is presently structured does not help Africa to attain development. Africa's failure to participate integrally in globalization is the product of the socioeconomic dynamics of the continent. Therefore, there is need to take cognizance of these factors in facilitating Africa's full participation in the globalized international political economy. Ref., sum. [Journal abstract] |
