Abstract:This study investigates the nature and direction of the influence of external debt and external debt service on the demand for imports in Nigeria using recent developments in the 'cointegration theory'. The empirical results show a positive influence of external debt and a negative influence of both external debt service and the external debt crisis on the demand for imports in Nigeria.
