Abstract: | Cultural groups in Lesotho appear to be disparate, discrete, fragmented and, in some cases, dysfunctional. The government, through its Department of Culture, should be more involved in the cultural life of Lesotho. Moreover, there is a need to coordinate, collectivize and unify the various groups of art by gathering them under the aegis of a national council of arts and culture. However, mainly because of administrative and developmental weaknesses, neither the Lesotho Academy of Arts (LAA) nor the Art House Association of Lesotho (THAHA), at present the two dominant associations, qualify for such an all-embracing function.
