Abstract: | The government of South Africa has committed itself to promoting gender equality by signing relevant international documents and through the inclusion of equality in the constitution. Therefore, provincial administrations are bound by the same commitments. In July 2001 the author undertook a research project aimed at assessing gender equality promotion in the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape (PAWC). The assessment was based on interviews with gender focal persons and the head of the Western Cape Office on the Status of Women for Gender Equality (WCOSW). The overall conclusion was that limited progress has been made with the promotion of gender equality in the PAWC. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum. [Journal abstract] |
