Abstract: | This article deals with al-Maqrizi's booklet on the Muslim rulers of Ethiopia, the 'Kitab al-Ilmam bi-akhbar man bi-ard al-Habasha min muluk al-Islam', the 'Book of the true knowledge of the history of the Muslim kings in Ethiopia', which was finished in 1438. It examines the various editions and translations of the text as well as its sources, notably written - which raises the issue of 'plagiarism'- but also oral. It is concerned in particular with an informant of the Egyptian historian al-Maqrizi, a sheikh called Shihabaddin Ahmed b. Abdalkhaliq al-Majasi. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum. in English and in French. [Journal abstract, edited] |
