Abstract:This paper highlights and elucidates various radical changes that have occurred in gospel music in Nigeria (a bona fide Nigerian artistic genre) in recent years and the factors responsible for them. A major revolutionary change has been the incorporation of sociopolitical themes and linguistic innovations, notably the use of two or more languages and Pidgin English. The paper also attempts to foster a better understanding of the genre, especially in its contemporary settings. Bibliogr., online sum. [Journal abstract]
