Abstract: | This paper looks at the Jewish (or Sephardic) presence in the Petite Côte (Senegambia) in the early 17th century. Particularly, it elucidates some aspects of the research published in 2004 by Peter Mark and José da Silva Horta, adding to their findings results of research in the Gemeentearchief of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Documents in this archive provide information on Jewish trading connections. Also, attention is briefly paid to the Jewish role in the development of the emerging Creole societies of this period.
