Abstract: | This paper evaluates the effects of Chinese products on women in Zimbabwe. For the purpose of this study, a survey was carried out in the city of Harare between June and December 2004. The results of this survey show that Chinese products are a lot cheaper than the goods sold in locally-owned shops. These products, however, have numerous defects which render them cheap-quality goods. These products have affected women differently depending on which class one belongs to, and they have affected women's welfare in various ways. These include, among others, purchasing ability, employment, class differentiation and self-esteem. Bibliogr., note, sum. [Journal abstract] |
