Abstract: | This article discusses the importance of curriculum and collection evaluation, and the use of the conspectus approach in the development of collection mapping in academic libraries, notably how it is practised at the University of Botswana Library. The conspectus approach allows for systematic collection development. The approach provides clear information, and through the process of mapping, a graphical representation of the strength of the collection is created. The article concludes that collection mapping, through the use of the conspectus, is an excellent way of matching the collection to the curriculum, and has proved useful in identifying the gaps in the collection, which are filled through systematic selection.
