Abstract:The expanding nature of the metropolis comprising the city of Nairobi (Kenya) and peripheral areas brings about an acute problem of land use competition and urban inclusiveness. Competition also exists between urban land uses and rural land uses. This paper argues for urban inclusiveness and catalogues the sources of land use conflicts in peripheral Nairobi, and suggests some possible methods of resolving those conflicts through administrative directives and land use planning.
