Abstract:The author explores the ways in which South African Muslims have tried to lay claim to an imaginary, utopian community that can be mobilized around personal law, political organization and public representation in the framework of a liberal democratic and secular constitution and Bill of Rights. The author suggests that this utopian vision is by definition unattainable. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum. [ASC Leiden abstract]
