Abstract:This collective work is concerned with the environment and the manner in which natural resources are managed in Ghana. The book is divided into four parts: I. Forest resources; II. Wildlife resources; III. Community-based natural resources management; IV Economics of natural resources management. The chapters in part I deal with sustainable forest management (David M. Nanang); illegal farming threatening protected forest areas in south-western Ghana (Noble T. Donkor, Charles E. Owubah and Richard D. Nsenkyire); plantation development (K.F. Salifu and I.G. Amponsah), and growth and management of teak plantations (Thompson K. Nunifu). The chapters in part II address the issue of bushmeat (Noble T. Donkor, Oscar I. Aalangdong) and the protection of two indigenous giant snail species in the Bia Biosphere Reserve (Stephen A. Asamoah). The chapters in part III are concerned with community-based water resources management, notably fisheries (Jennifer Hauck and Eva Youkhana); community involvement in wildlife conservation in Northern Ghana (O.I. Aalangdong and others), and community-based management of the Afadjato and Agumatsa Conservation Area (Erasmus H. Owusu). Topics in part IV are: natural resource valuation and analysis (David M. Nanang); the economic value of recreation at the Kakum National Park (David M. Nanang and Erasmus H. Owusu); causes of deforestation: an econometric approach (David M. Nanang and Emmanuel K.
