Abstract: | How has the global coffee crisis affected the smallholder coffee farmers in East Africa? This study was carried out in three pilot sites of coffee farmers' organizations in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, in order to understand the value chains under which these farmers function and the current importance of coffee to smallholder farmers. The paper looks at the relationship between the quality of coffee production (arabica, in this case), the price of coffee and the income and expenses of the coffee farmer. Bibliogr., notes.
