Abstract: | This collection of papers is the reflection of the third and final DPRN (Development Policy Review Network) regional expert meeting on southern Africa, held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on 13 December 2007. The meeting focused on the theme of governance and development in southern Africa. Contributions: Public-private partnerships in rural development: downplaying the role of politics and power relations (John Belt and Marja Spierenburg); Negotiating knowledges for development (Henk Molenaar and Marjoke Oosterom); Post-apartheid South Africa and the crisis of expectation (Anshu Padayachee and Ashwin Desai); Land and agrarian reform in South Africa: caught by continuities (Paul Hebinck, Derick Fay and Kwandiwe Kondlo); Civil domains and arenas in Zimbabwean settings: democracy and responsiveness revisited (David Sogge, Bob van der Winden and René Roemersma); Donors and governance in southern Africa: the case of Zambia, with Zimbabwe as a counterpoint (Jan Kees van Donge and Melle Leenstra). The appendix contains the report of the third DPRN Meeting. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
