Abstract: | This study is a descriptive analysis of manifestations of wisdom in the Dagaaba (Dagara) traditional society and Dagaaba culture. The study examines the characteristics of wise people in the Dagaaba traditional society. An understanding of the Dagaaba world view is a bedrock to the understanding of Dagaaba wisdom. Parents, keeners ('langkonbe'), soothsayers, and people with special skills are identified as some of the wise people in the Dagaaba traditional society. There are many manifestations and expressions of wisdom in Dagaaba society. It is stressed that Dagaaba traditional wisdom paved the way for the Dagaaba to embrace formal modern education, Christianity and Islam. It is contested that traditional Dagaaba wisdom is utilitarian and pragmatic. Dagaaba wisdom therefore can lend a lot to the present day educational system. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum.
