| Abstract: | This paper identifies the factors affecting the pricing of urban public transport services in the city of Kumasi, Ghana. It is based on data from two surveys spanning a period of five weeks and involving interviews with 150 urban transport operators and 400 passengers in Kumasi. The paper identifies, amongst others, fare level, fuel costs, overhead costs and population density as key factors affecting urban transport prices in the city. Furthermore, it provides insight into how pricing could be used to harmonize the interests of all stakeholders in Kumasi's urban transport services sector. In conclusion, the paper discusses the policy implications of its findings and suggests ways for the management of the urban transport pricing system in Ghana. Bibliogr., notes, ref., sum.
