| Abstract: | Marock is a teen romance, and in most respects it's a pretty classic coming of age story. But the teens in questions are the moneyed, Westernized children of Morocco's elite, and the romance is an inter-faith one. The film was controversial in Morocco as it deals with a Muslim/Jewish love between two high school mates in Casablanca, Rita and Youri. The title 'Marock' is a play on words based on the French name of Morocco, 'Maroc', and 'Rock' as in Rock'n Roll. [Abstract reproduced from dvd-video] |
