Abstract: | This paper, launched at the Africa Day during the 5th World Water Forum in Istanbul in 2009, presents African perspectives on water security and sanitation issues, notably the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals related to water and sanitation, water and economic growth, the investment requirement to meet Africa's deficient water situation, basin management and transboundary water cooperation, adapting to climate variability and change, and institutional development and capacity-building. The Africa regional paper makes specific recommendations for actions that can be carried through the various sessions at the Forum into the Ministerial Declaration and other Forum outcomes.
