Abstract: | This study investigates organizational commitment in the current era of a new psychological contract in Zimbabwe, that is, the relationship between employers and employees in an environment determined by economic recession. The psychological contract that exists between employees and organizations is brittle due to many organizational changes which stem from the threatened business environment. The paper aims at gaining more insight into the role of human relations management in facilitating healthier psychological contracts. The target population of the study consisted of 100 lecturers working at three State universities, namely Bindura University of Science Education, Chinhoyi University of Technology, and Masvingo State University. The results indicate that an increase in the number of positive human resource management practices reported by respondents correlates with a decrease in violation and breach of the psychological contract.
