Subjects include the printing press (Isabel Hofmeyr), maritime flows (Jonathan Hyslop), interlocking worlds of war (Pradip Kumar Datta), Portuguese (de)colonization and Goan migration in the Indian Ocean, Mozambique (Pamila Gupta) and cultural forms of resistance (Goolam Vahed). The second set of chapters contain socio-political comparisons in the areas of iconic leaders (Crain Soudien), democratic deepening (Patrick Heller), popular participation (Claire Bénit-Ghaffou & Stéphanie Tawa Lama-Rewal), political party ideologies (Michelle Williams) and migration (Phil Bonner).
