Abstract: | She combined her struggle for a better physical environment for Kenyans to live in with a long battle with the government of Kenya's second President, Daniel Arap Moi, for more political freedom. She was one of a dozen opposition leaders who unsuccessfully tried to unseat Moi from office during the 1997 presidential election. During the next general election that brought in Mwai Kibaki as Kenya's third President she would end up in Parliament and be appointed Assistant Minister in the Ministry responsible for environmental matters.
