Abstract: | In this study the author has investigated Tanzanian teacher educators' conceptions and experiences of quality and quality enhancement within teacher education. The results show that quality is conceived in terms of excellence, fitness for purpose and transformation. Excellence is expressed in terms of high academic and professional qualification. Fitness for purpose is illustrated in the mastery of teaching competencies and curriculum integration, and transformation is stated in terms of the capacity to empower individuals to respond to the changing needs in society. The curriculum of teacher education programs and the professionalism of teacher educators are perceived as factors which influence the process of quality enhancement. |
