| Abstract: | This special issue offers an interdisciplinary focus on non-normative sexuality and gender diversities. The authors have taken a developmental approach to the issue, a commitment that the journal promotes, by encouraging young and new contributors and authors to be in conversation with established scholars. The articles also theorise and engage with the question of what it means to be 'non-normative' in a continent that appears increasingly resistant towards same-sex identification, experience and pleasure. The articles ask about, and at times present responses to the inherited State and knowledge systems steeped in colonial and imperial histories.
