Abstract:There hasn't been peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo for 20 years, the army and the various militias are locked in a constant battle over the country's precious mineral resources. The fighters on both sides have been profiled often but this documentary looks at a group often thought of as merely victims of the war: women. On both sides there are female combatants. Some are fighting for what they believe in, others because they have nowhere else to go and nothing to lose. Many of these women have never seen peace, they joined to replace fathers lost in battle and never looked back. Others have left a militia but are unable to return home so the army seems like the next best option. Who are these women and what motivates them? We meet those on both side to hear their stories.
