Abstract: | Since Terry Ranger's death on 3 January 2015 in Oxford, there has been an outpouring of memorials and tributes to one of the founding fathers of African history. Writers and friends have celebrated Terry's scholarship and extraordinary productivity, his political activism, and his intellectual and personal generosity. Terry was chairman of the Journal of Southern African studies' Editorial Board between 1979 and 1994. In this issue, the journal publishes tributes from members of the current Editorial and Advisory Boards.
