Abstract: | In this article the authors stress the importance of human resources in an organization or country in achieving organizational goals or national development. However, they argue, success or failure depends on the quality of leadership and its ability to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of human resources. The authors take the example of Nigeria, where they see a lack of adequate emphasis on human resource development as a tool for development. This study examines the investments made by successive governments in Nigeria in human resource development. It pinpoints the problems of leadership in this context. The article then recommends that organizations, government and private bodies invest hugely in human resources. Bibliogr., sum. [ASC Leiden abstract] |
