Abstract: | Coen Beeker is a Dutch urban planner with half a century of experience in urban planning on the African continent. His projects have taken him to Tunisia, Sudan, Ethiopia and Burkina Faso, where he introduced his innovative approach to urban redevelopment - the Beeker Method - in an era that was dominated by top-down interventions. This volume of brief articles by Beeker's former co-workers and contributions from contemporary practitioners and scholars, provides a lens through which to view Beeker's work and its historical and contemporary context and relevance. Contributors: Coen Beeker, Antoni Folkers, Ellen Geurts, Joseph Guiébo, Muhammad Juma, Rachel Keeton, Gilbert Kibtonré, Aklilu Kidanu, Saskia de Lang, Yolande Lingané, Peter Pels, Iga Perzyna, Johan Post, Saskia Ruijsink, Peter Russell, Anteneh Tola, Martien de Vletter.
