Abstract:This book examines the impact of the English language on the whole process of political development in Africa. Some of the questions the author tries to answer, are: how far does the English language determine who exercises power in an African country; how far does it influence foreign policy; in what way did the poetry of Shakespeare and Milton contribute to the intellectual and ideological development of at least two African presidents; and how much residual racism is there in the metaphorical heritage of English languages.
