Abstract: | A historical survey of the movement of the Moslem Brethren from the beginnings in 1928 till the Brethren's third dissolution in 1954. The first part of the book consists of a description of the movement: growth and development; the personality of the leader Hasan al-Banna, their principles and achievements; their role in politics and the movement outside Egypt. And an analysis according to the four points by which the movement is distinguished from preceding Islamic movements: all-inclusiveness; a tightly knit organization; popular orientation and appeal and interaction with local events in Egypt. The first part ends in 1951; the second part brings the story up to 1955. |
