Abstract: | An international Workshop on African Limnology (Inland waters, their ecology and utilization) was held in Nairobi, 16-23 December 1979, under the auspices of the International Association of Limnology (SIL) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The proceedings are based on framework documents produced by the convenors of the fifteen working groups, the discussions during the sessions, and much subsequent work by convenors and their assistants. Five working groups focussed on hydroclimate and trophic levels (hydroclimate, macrophytes, phytoplankton, invertebrates, fishes), five on different types of inland waters (rivers, saline waters, shallow waters, deep lakes, man-made lakes) and five on natural evolution and human input (nutrient budgets, pollution, ecological implications, rational exploitation, paleolimnology). |
