| Abstract: | Nine biographies of people whose main preoccupation was with politics in Kenya. Six of them were born and spent their whole lives in East Africa, but even with the three who came from outside the involvement with the local political situation was almost certainly the most significant section of their careers. The writers of the biographies have tried to elicit, from the detail of an individual life, material that is directly relevant to the wider understanding of political developments in Kenya. K.J.
