Abstract:Foreword by Gordon T. Goodman. The International Institute for Energy and Human Ecology (the Beijer Institute) of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Kenyan Ministry of Energy (created in 1980), carried out a systems study of the fuelwood cycle within the energy and development context of Kenya. The body of this book summarizes the main issues and findings of the study. Specialized material on important aspects of the energy problem in Kenya, along with detailed documentation of data sources, field surveys and computer analyses will be published in a complementary set of nine volumes. Three appendices: Shemes of woodfuel supply and demand, tables of research development strategies to support a woodfuel programme.
