Abstract:On the bais of information from the matrilineal Brong area of Brong-Ahafo region and the patrilineal Ewe area of Volta region, southern Ghana, the author examines the way in which the cocoa cash crop system and family organization affect the transmission of resources and the organization of labour, focusing on the implications of these patterns for women farmers both as economic actors and as family members. The paper is a revised version of a paper presented at the African Studies Association meeting in 1981. Notes, ref.
